Dalio Center for Health Justice

The Dalio Center for Health Justice aims to understand and address the root causes of health inequities with the goal of setting a new standard of health justice for the communities we serve.

Education & Leadership

Each year, the Dalio Center for Health Justice holds an annual conference on a health equity topic, convening public health professionals, community-based organizations, hospitals, public officials, philanthropic organizations, and other thought leaders to explore and tackle systemic factors that lead to health inequity.

The Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) was launched in July 2017, in partnership with Columbia's Business School and the Department of Health Policy & Management (HPM). LEAD delivers strategic management and health policy training to rising-star physicians in the NYP health system.

LEAD program provides a tailored, applied education for future physician leaders to gain competencies and capabilities valued by NYP and our medical partners, including respect-based leadership, management skills, team-building, healthcare policy, and applied business skills. In addition to coursework, participants complete a capstone project preparing them to effectively work and collaborate in our institutions, with a focus on addressing structural inequities in healthcare.

LEAD Program Attendings

The Dalio Center for Health Justice at NewYork-Presbyterian, in collaboration with ICAP at Columbia University, the global center at Mailman School of Public Health, has launched the REACH (Responding to Epidemics and Crises in Health) Fellowship. This innovative, one-year program provides rising-stars of NewYork-Presbyterian staff across a variety of health disciplines an opportunity to learn how to predict, manage, and lead robust responses to complex health emergencies, including emerging infectious diseases and other health crises.

The REACH fellowship offers a range of approaches to bring the fullest level of education and training to the fellows. This includes tailored coursework, lectures and case studies around topics such as global health, epidemiology, social determinants of health, epidemic preparedness and response, and health communication, as well as skill-building seminars. Fellows are paired with expert mentors and peers as they work on capstone projects relevant to their specific discipline and interest.

REACH Fellows

In 2022, we launched our Dalio Center Book Club with the aim to engage our Dalio Team members and NYP colleagues in health justice and anti-racism discourse. Each quarter we have one book focused on a specific topic and feature a review of it in our newsletter, as well as have an annual event centered around one of our book topics.
