NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital has been named an accredited center of care by the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF), a national nonprofit committed to improving the health outcomes and quality of life for children with cardiomyopathy.

Over a 12-month period, NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital has managed care for 238 patients with pediatric cardiomyopathy (PCM). The hospital offers a wide range of services related to PCM, including heart transplants, high-quality imaging, interventional cardiology, genetic testing, pediatric cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiac intensive care. The high volume of pediatric cardiomyopathy patients, variety of clinical services and expertise factored into the hospital’s CCF accreditation, as did its academic affiliation and status as a research hospital. With this accreditation, NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital is recognized for its consistent, high-quality cardiac care and the specialized disease management it provides to children with the disease.

“The accreditation validates the hospital’s expertise in offering high-quality, comprehensive family-centered care to children with cardiomyopathy,” says Dr. Linda Addonizio, director of the Program for Pediatric Cardiomyopathy, Heart Failure and Transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. She says the program’s patients come from around the world.

Cardiomyopathy is a chronic heart disease that affects how the heart muscle works and pumps blood through the body. Pediatric cardiomyopathy is a complex and variable disease, where only a quarter of the cases have a known cause. The CCF-accredited centers list provides an important resource for families seeking the best specialized medical care. Center accreditation is based on data reported by hospitals and cross-referenced against CCF’s center requirements. Centers meeting the criteria receive a two-year, renewable accreditation.
