A Unique Innovation in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital offers radial artery grafting, an innovative approach which has been shown to offer significantly improved long-term outcomes.

Instead of using a segment of a vein from the leg for bypassing a blocked artery, this advanced technique uses an artery from the arm, called the radial artery. This procedure reduces by half the risk that a patient may experience another blockage leading to closure of the bypass graft.

Cardiac surgeons at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist have also shown that multiple arterial grafting is a much safer procedure than having multiple stents during a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with multiple blocked arteries.
