Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center offers unparalleled training in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Over the course of our rigorous six-year program, residents earn an MD degree from the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and complete a comprehensive one-year internship in general surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, one of the nation’s top healthcare institutions.

Situated in New York City, our program offers not only exceptional clinical and academic training but also an extraordinary lifestyle experience. Residents have the unique opportunity to explore the cultural diversity that only New York can offer—from iconic museums and Broadway performances to major sports events and a globally celebrated culinary scene.

Our graduates emerge not only as highly skilled surgeons but as leaders poised to shape the future of the field. In recent years, our residents have consistently matched into the nation’s most competitive and prestigious fellowships—including specialties such as Head & Neck/Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, General Cosmetic Surgery, and Orthognathic/Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery—demonstrating their exceptional capabilities and leadership. Many have also excelled in renowned private practices, further cementing our program's status as a leader in oral and maxillofacial surgery training. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, and leadership, ensuring our residents are fully equipped to meet and exceed the demands of the most advanced areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
