All the Support You Need
Weight loss surgery is a major procedure and a life-changing decision. We offer all the care you need before and after surgery to enhance your chance of success.
- Patient education sessions. You’ll attend a patient education session where you can receive educational information and hear from other patients who have had or are considering weight loss surgery — so you know what to expect. Your family members and friends are also welcome to attend. You can find out when the next session is by calling 914-734-3966.
- Bariatric support group. We offer a bariatric support group for all weight loss surgery patients. The meeting is held on the second Wednesday of every month in the ground floor conference room at the hospital at 6 p.m. For more information, call 914-734-3966.
- Medical weight loss before surgery. Some patients follow a medically supervised diet before the operation to lose weight and optimize their health. We'll connect you with the hospital's medical weight loss team if this is part of your care.
- Follow-up care for life. After your weight loss surgery, you will receive ongoing care. We collaborate with your primary care physician to ensure continuity of care. Our team is here to support you every step of the way.
- Emotional health support. Weight loss surgery is a major lifestyle change and can affect your emotional health, too. We offer mental health support, with a psychologist evaluating you before and after surgery and providing you with the mental health support you need.
- Learn how to eat better. You'll continue to see a registered dietitian to help you stay on track. NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital’s renowned Chef Peter X. Kelly Teaching Kitchen is a significant resource for the Hudson Valley community and offers special cooking demonstrations for patients who have weight loss surgery and their families. You'll need to eat differently after weight loss surgery, and our cooking team can show you how.
