On Nov. 8 and 9, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia University Medical Center will host an "Innovations in Pediatric Medicine" conference at the Grand Hyatt New York, which will feature lectures by international leading authorities in pediatric biomedical research, genetic findings and stem cell therapy breakthroughs.

Demonstrating its commitment to clean energy and cost savings, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has switched on the first hospital-based co-generation plant in Manhattan. Located at 70th St. and York Ave. and unveiled today in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the plant promises to reduce the emission of 20,000 tons of pollutants each year, the equivalent of taking 3,600 automobiles off the road, while adding millions of dollars in annual cost savings.

NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is celebrating the 25th anniversary of pediatric heart transplantation. In 1984, the Hospital's surgeons performed the world's first successful heart transplant, giving the gift of life to a 4-year-old boy. In the intervening quarter century, more than 350 children have received new hearts at the Hospital, which today has among the country's top three largest pediatric heart transplant programs.

Demonstrating the overlapping benefits of healing and good environmental stewardship, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital now uses cleaning chemicals that are certified as safer for humans and for the great outdoors.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center was honored with an "Environmental Excellence Award" in recognition of its sustainable practices and efforts to improve the environment — including recycling, composting and energy efficiency.

After completing a yearlong asthma education program, 45 families are graduating with the tools they need to control their child's asthma, preventing acute episodes that can lead to emergency room visits and missed school days. The WIN (Washington Heights–Inwood Network) for Asthma Program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital serves families in northern Manhattan, where the childhood asthma rate is four times the national average.

The Russell Berrie Foundation has donated $28 million to Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, as part of a focused effort to provide comprehensive care to diabetes patients while working, through concentrated research initiatives, toward a cure, the Medical Center gratefully announced today.
