Your Health Care Team
Your Health Care Team consists of Physicians, Nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Technicians, Therapists, Dietitians and numerous other support services.
Our Medical Staff
We take pride in the caliber of physicians who comprise our Medical Staff. Your physician meets stringent requirements to maintain his or her credentials. The physician who admits you is responsible for directing your care and should be consulted if you have questions about your illness.
Our Nursing Staff
Our nursing staff is a key part of your stay and is committed to providing quality care. A professional Registered Nurse is assigned to your care 24 hours a day and works with a team of Nurse Assistants and Patient Care Partners [PCPs]. A Nurse Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care on each unit. Please feel free to contact your Nurse Manager if you have any concerns or questions.
Some patients choose to have the additional care of a private duty nurse or aide. This service may be arranged though our Nursing Staff Office at ext. 5036. You will be billed directly by the agency for this service. Some insurance policies will pay for private duty nursing, but prior authorization from your insurer is required in most cases.
Our Case Managers
The Case Manager (CM) is a nurse who will be assigned to you upon admission to assist in managing your stay and will participate in planning for your discharge. Your CM will work with your physician and insurance company, as well as the entire Health Care Team, to ensure that your needs are met in the hospital as well as after discharge.
Our Social Workers
Social Workers are assigned to each patient care area and are trained to help patients and family members deal with financial, social and emotional problems that relate to their illness or hospitalization. Members of the department work with patients and families to help deal with long-term illnesses and rehabilitation. They are involved in discharge planning and work with other members of your health care team to make sure that you have the necessary services in place when you are discharged from the hospital.
Our Dietitians
The hospital maintains a staff of full-time Registered Dietitians to meet your nutritional needs during your stay. If you have any questions about your diet or nutritional needs, please call ext. 5087.
Our Technicians
Our technicians, technologists and therapists are specially trained to contribute to your care. These skilled staff members work under your physician’s direction and are proficient in the specific techniques that aid in preventing, diagnosing and treating your illness.
Laboratory Services
The Laboratory is a state-of-the-art, full service computerized Lab accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Performing more 700,000 tests annually, the Lab is staffed with experienced, licensed Medical Technologists, board-certified Pathologists, and a team of highly skilled Phlebotomists.
Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation
We offer expert rehabilitation in a relaxed and supportive environment. All our highly trained physical and occupational therapists as well as speech-language pathologists are NYS licensed and most have earned postgraduate or doctoral degrees. As a rehabilitation patient you will benefit from their many specialized areas of expertise and certifications in lymphedema, manual and hand therapy.
Big Heart Program
We at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester (formerly Lawrence Hospital) are committed to demonstrating our values of Integrity, Respect, Quality and Teamwork when caring for our patients and their families in our interactions with one another. When you feel that a coworker or member of the staff has made that special difference to you, a patient, or a visitor, please fill out a Big Heart card which you will find by the ballot box at the nurse’s station. After completing the card place it in the ballot box.
