Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

One of the greatest treatment advances in women’s health is minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Compared with traditional, or “open” surgery, minimally invasive surgery results in significantly less pain, less blood loss, smaller incisions, less risk of infection, a shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery and return to normal activities. Additionally, the smaller incisions result in better cosmetic results and minimal scarring.

At NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, our OB/GYNs have subspecialty training in a wide range of minimally invasive techniques to treat gynecologic conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and pelvic floor disorders. These procedures are typically performed on a same-day, outpatient basis.

Gynecologic Conditions Treated with Minimally Invasive Surgery

  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroids
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Pelvic floor disorders such as uterine prolapse
  • Pelvic adhesions
  • Hysterectomy
  • Myomectomy
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Adenomyosis
  • Congenital abnormalities

Minimally Invasive Surgery Approaches

  • Hysteroscopy: a hysteroscope (a slim, light-transmitting telescope) views and operates inside the uterus.
  • Laparoscopic surgery: a light-transmitting laparoscope (telescope) views inside the abdomen and pelvis and allows surgeons to perform procedures without making major incisions.
  • Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery: The three-dimensional visualization and technical precision of robotic-assisted surgery enhances the surgeon’s ability to perform difficult procedures through small incisions with greater accuracy.
