Language Services
Interpreter Services
Many patients and families prefer to communicate in a language other than English. Our goal is to have every patient comfortable and confident in understanding the information provided by our health care team. At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, we can provide professional interpreting services at no cost to you, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To access interpreting services, please ask any staff member and he or she will make arrangements as needed.
Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing/Visually Impaired
If you, a family member, or loved one communicate using sign language, NewYork-Presbyterian Queens is able to provide sign language interpreting services to you at no cost via an iPad-based video interpreting service for immediate communication. This technology allows the patient, provider, and interpreter to quickly connect and interact face-to-face ensuring high quality and timely patient care. NYP/Queens also has a staff of sign language interpreters on-site. If you are visiting one of our off-site clinics, arrangements can be made in advance to have a sign language interpreter present during your visit. Please inform your clinic at least five business days prior to your visit that the sign language interpreter will be required.
TTY Relayed Phones for the hearing impaired and Braille and talking keypad phones for the legally blind are also available. If you are visually impaired, our staff will assist you with forms. The Patient Bill of Rights and various selected forms are available in Braille through the Office of Patient Experience.
