PGY2 Ambulatory Care
The PGY2 Ambulatory Care residency is a 12-month, full-time training program. This specialty program builds upon the PGY1 pharmacy residency in that it provides a well-rounded experience leading to the development of expert knowledge, skills and leadership of the resident in specialized areas of ambulatory care practice.
The resident will gain experience in direct patient care services in our diverse outpatient clinics that reduce and erase health disparities by providing patients with the world’s best healthcare services. The resident will have opportunities to work with multidisciplinary teams in various areas such as primary care, transitions of care, neurology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, nephrology and pulmonology. The resident will enhance their skills to manage chronic disease states and promote wellness and utilization of preventive services. Throughout the program, the resident will leverage the latest digital technologies and innovations to deliver high quality patient care, extending our services to improve access for all.
Upon completion of the program, the resident is expected to demonstrate competency in ambulatory care through direct patient care activities, clinical research and education of patients and other healthcare providers. The resident will develop teaching skills by providing in-service presentations to pharmacy staff and other health care providers, precepting PGY1 residents and pharmacy students, leading case-based clinical discussions, and critically evaluating literature. We offer a flexible program that focuses on the goals of each resident but is intended to provide a comprehensive clinical, research, and teaching experience. Residents will have hands-on management experience learning the intricacies of developing, maintaining and growing successful ambulatory care services. This program enables residents to confidently assume a clinical role and become an efficient healthcare team member and educator for patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and students. Residents who successfully complete the PGY2 Ambulatory Care pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and be eligible for attainment of board certification in Ambulatory Care.
