Residency Program

PGY2 Internal Medicine

The PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month, full-time training program. This specialty program is designed to build on Doctor of Pharmacy education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs and refine the resident’s clinical knowledge and leadership skills in the care of adult internal medicine patients, primarily in the inpatient setting. The residency offers a comprehensive learning experience including direct patient care activities, research, and teaching opportunities. Additionally, the resident will be able to participate in hospital pharmacy committees and directly contribute to administrative efforts. Upon completion of the program, the resident will be well-equipped to serve as clinicians, educators, and scholars in the area of adult internal medicine and pursue specialty board certifications.

  • Infectious Diseases / Antimicrobial stewardship

  • Critical care (Subspecialties)

  • Emergency medicine
  • Hematology/oncology
  • Psychiatry
  • Solid organ transplant

*Rotation blocks are 5 weeks except for orientation (4 weeks), block 1 (4 weeks) and block 4 (6 weeks).

Longitudinal Experiences (52 weeks)

  • Projects (1 MUE/QI project, 1 research project; 3 dedicated project weeks)
  • Presentations (1 Grand Rounds, 1 Formal Case Presentation, 1 Resident Core Topic Series, and 4 Journal Clubs)
  • Enterprise Formulary & Therapeutics Pharmacotherapy Subcommittee activities (Meets once a month)
  • Staffing (Sat/Sun every 3rd weekend)
  • Clinical on-call activities (7-day coverage once every 9 weeks)

Staffing Coverage

The PGY2 Internal Medicine resident will have staffing responsibilities (every third weekend) for the hospital practice experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Residents earn an annual stipend of $60,000. Paid time off is allotted for vacation/personal time, holidays, interviews, and professional meetings. Additional benefits include travel stipend for professional meetings, comprehensive health insurance, and subsidized housing (pending availability).

This residency program participates in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Residency Matching Program and is fully accredited by ASHP.
