Researchers from NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) have authored a study that may help understand cardiac risk in NBA basketball players and other athletes.

NewYork-Presbyterian held a beam signing ceremony yesterday to mark the installation of the final beam in the David H. Koch Center. The state-of-the-art ambulatory care facility is expected to open in 2018, and is supported by an extraordinary $100 million gift from David H. Koch.

1st-Annual-Safety-in-Spine-Surgery-Summit

NewYork-Presbyterian hosted the 1st Annual Safety in Spine Surgery Summit on Friday, February 19th. The meeting welcomed 200 physicians from across the United States and highlighted numerous safety and quality advances that are being made in spine surgery. Dr. Michael Vitale, Chief of the Pediatric Spine and Scoliosis Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/ Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, Chaired the Summit that focused on how to enhance both adult and pediatric spine safety and patient outcomes. Dr. Lawrence Lenke, surgeon-in-chief of The Spine Hospital at NewYork-Presbyterian/Allen, was also one of the featured Co-Chairs.

Dr-T-Sloane-Guy-Leads-New-Robotic-Heart-Surgery-Program-at-NYP

Dr. T. Sloane Guy has been recruited to lead the new robotic cardiac surgery program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine, effective Nov. 1, 2015. He joins the institutions from Temple University, where he served as chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, program director for a thoracic surgery residency, and chief of robotic surgery.

Renowned urologist Dr. Steven Brandes has joined NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center as chief of reconstructive surgery in the Department of Urology, effective February 1. He will also be named a professor of urology on the faculty of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine are among the nation’s top cancer centers calling for increased human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for the prevention of cancer. The statement comes in response to the public health threat posed by low national vaccination rates for HPV. The centers are urging physicians, parents and young adults to take advantage of this opportunity to prevent many types of cancer.
