Oncologists from NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine will discuss their latest research findings at the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting, June 3-7 in Chicago. The presentations will cover a variety of disciplines and treatment approaches, with a focus on this year’s meeting theme: the future of patient-centered care and research.

Dr. Craig Albanese has been appointed senior vice president and chief operating officer at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and Sloane Hospital for Women, effective June 6. Dr. Albanese currently serves as the vice president of quality and performance improvement at Stanford Children’s Health. He also serves as the John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn director of pediatric surgical services at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and is a professor of surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology at Stanford University Medical Center.

NewYork-Presbyterian’s annual Gala benefit dinner raised $4.7 million to support NewYork-Presbyterian’s premier spine services. The event on April 14 drew 1,200 attendees to the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria, New York.

Dr. Maria A. Oquendo was inducted in as American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) newest president at the organization’s annual meeting in Atlanta. It is the first time a Latina has ever been elected president of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Oquendo begins her term on May 18.

The New York City Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has announced John P. Leonard, MD, of Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian as its 2016 Manhattan Light The Night® corporate chair. Light The Night is LLS's largest annual fundraising event held each fall to find cures and provide access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has been certified by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC), the highest level of stroke certification a hospital can receive. They join the elite group of certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers throughout the United States.
