The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today announced that it has selected NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine to participate in a care delivery model that supports and encourages higher quality, more coordinated cancer care. The institutions join nearly 200 physician group practices and 17 health insurance companies participating in the Medicare arm of the Oncology Care Model, which includes more than 3,200 oncologists and will cover approximately 155,000 Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.

Dr. Jean C. Emond, director of the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation in the Department of Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center and the Thomas S. Zimmer Professor of Reconstructive Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center, is the president-elect of The American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS). He is expected to begin his term in May 2017.

Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian today announced that their shared medical campus in Washington Heights will be named for generous donors Herbert and Florence Irving and will now be called Columbia University Herbert and Florence Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

The designation, made by Cure HHT, recognizes institutions that provide outstanding specialized care for HHT, a rare genetic disorder that can cause sudden, catastrophic internal bleeding and stroke.

On August 23, 2016, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the launch of NewYork-Presbyterian’s second Patient Placement Operations Center (PPOC), located at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center campus. The first NewYork-Presbyterian PPOC went live February 2, 2016 at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.
